Year 3

Year 3

Year Class is the first class in the upper primary section and is for children between ages 7-8.

Curriculum
The Year 3 curriculum is broad and balanced, with a good emphasis on applying everything learnt in class, in the wider world. The core subjects taught include Numeracy (Mathematics), Literacy (English) and Science, while others are History, Geography, Religious Education, Citizenship, ICT, Music, French, Physical Education, Art and Yoruba.

Assessments
Our assessment methods include Mental Math Drills, Spelling Drills, Dictation, Projects, oral presentations and formal tests. Competitions within the school (Big Writing, Whizz-Kid, Spelling Bee, A* Reader), Modular Tests and End of Term Examinations are conducted termly to form the basis for authentic progress reports. At the end of the third term, the children write the Cambridge Progression Tests.

Co-curricular activities
These include – Taekwondo, Contemporary Dance, Scout, Music Instrumentals, Swimming and a variety of other clubs.

Assemblies
Once every academic year, the Year Group holds an assembly where each child gets an opportunity to feature in a presentation. Our ‘Year Three Mixed Flavour Broadway Show’ was an instant hit within the Temple Community. It featured Annie, clips from Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas, The Lion King, Hard-Knock Life and Sound of Music. The assembly ended with an exhilarating Tiv Dance called The Swanage Dance. It was an exciting day for the children as they danced and sang their hearts out before the whole school and their parents.

Parent involvement
Parents are involved in the education of their children/ward. General Parent-Teacher meetings are held at the beginning of every term and during the term whenever a need for this arises.

Special facilities
Each class is equipped with teaching resources to make the learning experience effective and fun-filled. These resources include textbooks, workbooks, a variety of Literacy, Numeracy and Science resources, projectors, interactive whiteboards, etc.

Field Trips
Field trips are usually organised every term where the children visit relevant places relating to topics studied in class.
